Three Question Preview - Charlotte FC vs FC Cincinnati
Ever since the disaster in Austin, FC Cincinnati has been on a roll. The team has played as well as they ever have in MLS. Maybe even in club history. The defense I holding their own. The offense is flying high. And the midfield, well heck, the midfield is holding its own.
Yuya Kubo and Junior Moreno have been a revelation for this team. A few stats. Yuya Kubo currently leads MLS in carries into the final third and tied for second in tackles. Lucho Acosta leads the league in shot creating actions and key passes. Junior Moreno currently ranks in the top 70th percentile for midfielders in clerenaces, interceptions, tackles, and progressive passes. See what happens when a competent defensive midfielder is added to the midfield? The two designated players are unlocked and able to play to their fullest potential. It only took four years for someone inside the club to figure that out. Now the midfield has proven competent, the width provided by the outside backs has proven deadly. A three man midfield failed for two years in Cincinnati, but with a few tweaks it's proven to be too much for a lot of teams to handle.
Here is your three question preview of Charlotte FC vs FC Cincinnati.
Three Question Preview
Will our memes just be dreams?
This month has taught me two things: Brandon Vazquez is a problem and the USMNT has a problem at striker. Yeah that's right, I'm not letting this one die. Until Vazquez goes on a 20 match goalless streak, I'm going to be banging this drum until the head wears out. He's the most in-form American striker on the planet right now, and every goal he puts in is another argument for why he should be called up to the national team. We can argue if Brenner or Badji is a better strike partner for him for now, but the first name on the team sheet is Vazquez. So will he keep making those arguments?
Who's going to start on the outside?
With Ronald Mataritta off getting his ankle destroyed with the Costa Rican national team, it's not exactly clear who's going to fill in for him on the left side. This has been an ongoing question this season and this match we should have a clearer picture. Ray Gaddis, Johnny Nelson, Tyler Blackett, even Zico Bailey are options here. Maybe even one of the youngsters gets a runout. But we'll find out today who the coaching staff trusts to backup on the left side.
Do you remember clean sheets?
I seem to remember they used to happen. Believe it or not FC Cincinnati had three last year! In fact, every single MLS FC Cincinnati has had exactly 3 clean sheets. Maybe, just maybe, tonight will be the first time in 2022 we start making some progressing towards getting, four? Nah you're right, that's just too much.
Here’s how I see things lining up.
A 3-2 thriller where Brandon Vazquez nets a hat trick, let me dream
