Three Questions: Matchday Six
Believe it or not this is Matchday 6 for FC Cincinnati. And here are the three questions that are on our mind going into the match against DC United at 7:30pm on Friday August 21st.
Is Alan Cruz the right fit for Jaap Stam's Midfield?
This seems like an easy one to answer, FC Cincinnati's best player so far in its short MLS history, a box-to-box midfielder with the ability to score goals, of course he fits in! Right? Well between injuries and an apparent healthy scratch in Orlando, Cruz might be the odd man out of the midfield. A lot has been made about how to build a midfield three out of de Jong, Medunjanin, Cruz, Amaya, and now new signing Kamo, and maybe Cruz is the one left holding the shortest straw here. Now word around Nippert Stadium is Cincinnati will be a tad thin going into the match, so Cruz's position might be a result of circumstance. But it will be very telling if the 2019 player of the year for FC Cincinnati starts on the bench.
Will we finally see Locadia score at Nippert?
With one goal and one painful miss in FC Cincinnati's last time out on the pitch, Locadia gave and took away hope. While fans in Cincinnati have only seen very limited glimpses of Loca, he has impressed when he's been on the field. A goal at Nippert would be a wonderful way to start off his, hopefully long, career of banging in goals in Cincinnati. Sure there won't be fans on the field, the Bailey will look impressive regardless, and a home goal is a home goal.
How great is this?
Yes, this is 100% a cop-out question, but this is exciting. FC Cincinnati and MLS are back from MLS's MLSisBack Tournament and the season is underway once more. And this time a formerly world-class defender is the manager of the club, German super starts are rumored to be coming into the team, and FC Cincinnati actually seems to be trying to sign a South American attacking player. This is such an exciting time to be around FC Cincinnati. With a surprise showing in the Orlando tournament and the new stadium literally and figuratively just over the horizon, this is one of the most optimistic moments in FC Cincinnati's MLS tenure. Hell, even Vegas has FC Cincinnati as the slight favorites in this one. Anything is possible.
