Preview: The FC Travels to Yankee Stadium to take on NYCFC

Shawn Behmer

After a thrilling 3-3 draw against Chicago Fire over the weekend, FC Cincinnati is looking to right the ship in a short turnaround against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium.

FC Cincinnati currently sits at 10th in the Eastern Conference and 21st in the Supporter Shield race. While The FC has won the xG battle in its last three matches, the defense has conceded 19 goals in eight matches — tied for fourth-most in MLS.

On the other hand, NYCFC sits at 7th in the Eastern Conference and 15th in the Supporter Shield race. NYCFC has only won once in its last five matches with its sole win coming against USL League One (third-division) side Westchester SC in the US Open Cup.

FC Cincinnati vs New York City FC

Since 2019, FC Cincinnati currently holds a 6-10-3 record against NYCFC. Over the years, NYCFC hosted FC Cincinnati at two different baseball parks: Citi Field and Yankee Stadium. With Wednesday’s match taking place at Yankee Stadium, we wanted to see just how The FC performed at these ballparks.

Their record when playing away at NYCFC ballparks? Not great, Bob. It is a 1-4-1 record.

FC Cincinnati record at baseball stadiums

We went even further down a rabbit hole to provide you with stats you didn’t ask for:

Since 2016, The FC has played 21 matches at 8 different baseball stadiums in all competitions. The FC holds a 7-9-5 record when playing at baseball stadiums.

To quote Grayson, “They [The FC] have typically been terrible on the baseball field, but this is not a typical year. So we’ll probably be really good on the baseball field [Wednesday].”

With NYCFC’s soccer-specific stadium set to open in 2027, The FC is quickly running out of opportunities to establish a winning record when playing at baseball parks.
